I am extremely concerned about, and a staunch supporter of, cured-based research for Type I juvenile onset/insulin-dependent diabetes. It is of vital importance to me and the American society that this type of research is adequately funded. We are on the verge of a major breakthrough regarding Type I diabetes that may potentially lead to cures for other autoimmune disorders such as lupus, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, scleroderma, Sjogren’s syndrome, and rheumatoid arthritis. With so much to gain, I am deeply disturbed by the current funding impediments that exist for the most promising cure-based research. Most notably, the human BCG trials currently underway at Massachusetts General Hospital under the direction of Doctors Denise Faustman and David Nathan. As a United States citizen and voter, I cannot, ethically or in good conscience, support any elected official who does not justify and dignify our struggle by directly supporting fundraising and resisting the influence of lobbyists that attempt to impede adequate funding for their own gain. By signing this petition, I strongly urge and encourage that funding be provided for the most promising cure-based, Type I diabetes research in progress. On behalf of your constituents, your patients, your fellow man, please take result-driven, affirmative steps by supporting and funding cure-based, Type I diabetes research NOW! Our lives, and the lives of future generations... yours and mine... depend on it.
